Translate, save and learn words and phrases
Learn languages from what you read. Translate a word or phrase, save it with the sentence it came from, and remember it with spaced repetition.
The extension works in Chrome on a computer. The web app works in a browser on your phone or computer.
How it works
Pick a word
Select a word or phrase on any web page with the extension, or tap one in a text in Learn's Read mode.
Translate and save it
See the translation and save it to your dictionary together with the sentence it came from.
Review and practice
Spaced repetition brings each word back before you forget it, and seven short games let you practice whenever you like.
What you can do
Translate on any page
With the Chrome extension, select a word or phrase on a web page to translate and save it, and, if you turn it on, highlight the words you saved wherever you read. In the web app, type or paste it on the Translate page.
Open TranslateReview
Rate each word Again, Good or Easy and the next review date adjusts to you. Set a daily goal and keep a streak.

Open ReviewPractice with seven games
True or false, find the pairs, choose the translation, recall and type, build a phrase, build a word and a memory game. Play with your saved words or with the included phrases.

Open your dictionary15 interface languages
Translate between 15 languages and use Olemma in any of them. The interface follows your browser's language, or you can choose one in Settings.
Your words on every device
In the extension, your saved words follow you to every Chrome you are signed into. Sync between the extension and the web app with a Google account is being prepared and is not open yet.
Privacy
No ads, no analytics and no tracking. Without an account, your words stay in your browser, and the extension keeps them in your Chrome sync.
To translate a word, Olemma sends it to a translation service unless Chrome can translate it on your device. Definitions come from Wiktionary, and Read loads its texts from Wikipedia.
Help and contact
Questions, problems or ideas? Write to us at this address:
Is Olemma free?
Yes. Translating, saving, review, practice and Learn are free, in the extension and in the web app.
Does it work on my phone?
The web app does. Open it in your phone's browser to translate, review, practice and learn, and add it to your home screen if you like. The extension needs Chrome on a computer.
How does sync work?
The extension keeps your words in Chrome's sync storage, so they follow you to every Chrome you are signed into. Your language pair syncs too, while review progress and most other settings stay on each device. The web app keeps its words in the browser you use it in, separate from the extension.
How do I export my words?
Open Saved and choose Export. You get a tab-separated text file that you can import again in the extension or the web app.
Which languages are supported?
English, Russian, Finnish, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Swedish, Japanese, Polish, Turkish, Arabic, Chinese and Dutch, for translation and for the interface. The included phrases cover ten of them.
